Buddhist monk Yulin, who was also called Yang Tongxiu, went to Beijing
in 1658 and was named by Emperor Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty “Dajue”
which means great wisdom for his smartness. In 1675 when he was 62 years
old, he traveled to the south and passed away in Ciyun Temple in
Huai’an. In 1735, Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty allocated fund
to expand Ciyun Temple which was completed in 1739, and a new Nengren
Guoshi pagoda was built in it.
