Online Marketing Strategies to Prepare Your Business for the Holidays

3The holiday season is here, and businesses are trying to modify their outreach in hopes of getting a nice big slice of the Christmas cake. With shoppers in a near frenzied state, you can hope to end the season smiling, but only if you do your best at diverting their attention your way.

Naturally, with every other business around you trying to do the exactly same thing, getting some attention can be quite difficult, but with the right approach, you should do just fine. These tips will get you started.

Intensify Email Marketing

If you have been dealing with email marketing you should know that there’s only a thin line separating it from spam. And no one likes getting Christmas spam. That’s why you have to walk a fine line by making sure that your customers are informed of the convenience that you are offering, but that you are not overdoing it. If you have a decently large mailing list, this method should get you quite a bit of exposure, especially when combined with the next entry in the list.

Run Promotions

Christmas is a time of giving, right? So don’t hesitate to reward your customers with a nice gift in the form of a discount or some kind of special service, such as free shipping. Holidays can be extremely stressful for shoppers, especially when you consider the impact on their budget that the season is making, so people are even more eager than usually to find a good deal and save some money. By allowing them to both secure gifts for their family and feel like they’ve actually managed to save some money, you are doing a favor both to your customers and to yourself.

Social Media Outreach

If you do have a nice promotion in mind, you should by no means only inform people about it via email. Hopefully you have been maintaining one or several social media accounts, and holidays are a perfect time to put them to good use. Naturally you shouldn’t only use these websites to talk about your promotion. You can also try and set up your account in the spirit of the holiday. One of the things that you can do is offer special prizes, such as discounts or giveaways, to people who come up with the best Christmas story, or you could reward children drawings of Santa and the elves. Basically, invite people to have fun with you and reward them for their effort. Engaging the potential customers in this way helps you develop a relationship with them, which could be a deciding factor in their choice of store for Christmas shopping.

Modify Your SEO Strategy

Even though this is something that you have to think about sometime before the season, making sure that you target the season-specific keywords. Think about the terms that shoppers are likely to use when searching for gifts, and match them with what you can offer. Again, increase in rankings is not exactly something that can happen overnight, especially for highly contested keywords, but if not for this season, you can start preparing for the next.

Also make sure your server speed and bandwidth are up to the task for the spike in traffic!

Good tip! That’s always so unfortunate for a site when it finally gets a nice boost and then no one at all can even view it.
