Local SEO optimization needs no introduction! With users becoming sophisticated in their approach, the Internet usage has grown proportionately. People today are turning towards the Internet more for finding local services and products. It is especially true for businesses which sell online. Promoting a brick-and-mortar business is not an easy task as larger and international sites dominate the SERPs. Due to their presence, a local website gets buried deep inside the pages of search engines. Thus, local Search Optimization requires a completely different approach. Since local SEO is for searches related in a specific geo location, you need to give more hints to Google so that it can find you easily. Before implementing your local SEO strategy, make sure you’ve run down through this checklist. It consists of all the information you need to get started!

  1. Logo Optimization: The first encounter of any Search Engine with your site will be through logo image. So, if your logo is SEO optimized, it is a good start. Hence, be sure that you’ve taken care of the below mentioned points:
  • Your image filename should be descriptive.
  • ALT text is important for logo as you can insert location details.
  • Add a location in the title tag of the link.
  • Use the same logo across all social media platforms.
  1. Your Titles Should Be Descriptive: The title should be such which becomes easily visible to both users and search engines. The title is just 70 characters and it is pertinent that you include location and phone number.
  1. Full Address and Contact Information on Home Page: Ensure that you have entered complete information as text including your street number, post code, state, country, phone number, fax number and email.
  1. Add a Map: To enable people find you easily, it will be good if you add a Google map in the Contact Us page.
  1. Create a Google+ Business Page: It will be beneficial for you if you create a Google+ business page and make sure that you have given the same information throughout. Plus, provide a comprehensive detail in the ‘About’ field of the page.
  1. Register with Yahoo! Localworks: Pay $30 and get Yahoo’s service for local listings. It is just worth the effort and it’s not such a big amount that you can’t shell out. Link your Yahoo profile with Google+ Business Page.
  1. Have You Started Using Structured Data Markup Helper Tool? When you start using webmaster tools, do not forget to use Structured Data Markup Helper tool which you will find under the ‘Additional Tools’ Click on the Local Businesses option and inform Google about your business name, location etc.
  1. Register with Local Directories: Do not forget to update your information ‘only’ in the reputed local directories and constantly update your address details therein.
  1. Create a Business Page on Facebook: When majority of the world population is on Facebook, how can you afford to miss on this platform? So, if you still haven’t created one, do it now! Link your FB business page with Google+ one.
  1. Register with Bing, Yelp, Foursquare for Business: Bing Places for Business, Yelp and Foursquare for Business are most popular, trusted and reputed local listing directories. Registering on these platforms is easy and another way of identifying your business. On top of it, registering here is FREE.
  1. Reply to Each Review Posted: Since a valued customer has posted about your product/service, it is highly appreciated if you would reply on same. This would encourage users to post about your product/service and you will get a comprehensive idea of the changes required of the same.
  1. SEO Audit: Traditional SEO is still prominent and it hasn’t lost its sheen. If you want to comply with best standards and practices, ensure you run for a SEO audit of your website.
  1. Responsively Designed Website: People today want to make use of services on the go. So, be it tablet, iPad, mobile, desktop, notebook or any other device, having a user-friendly website is essential. Your responsibility lies in ensuring that your app has a map feature which shows your location.
  1. Do You Have A Blog Page? To enhance efficacy of your overall optimization process, it is better if you create a blog post and put in quality content focused on location based keywords or local keywords in title and content.
  1. Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and more: For best results, maintain your account on each one of the social networks. These platforms have the facility to suggest followers based on address/location information.
